Which SCS values resonate most for you?
Excellence.
For me, a commitment to excellence folds in all of the other SCS values.
From your SCS experience, what is foundational to who you are today?
I left SCS knowing how to learn, which means that everything and anything is possible!
What have you found most satisfying about your chosen career path?
I love working with performers and connecting with audiences. It’s humbling and extraordinarily powerful. I’m really proud of milestones like recording with Deutsche Grammophon, recording with Ricordi, etc., but ultimately it’s the humanness of making and sharing work that drives me.
What makes you a Trailblazer?
There are still very, very few female composers. I’ve had to forge my own path, both my career path, but also my creative path - that’s a journey with no maps, that one has to undertake on one’s own.
What does it mean to be part of the SCS Alum community?
For me, it’s knowing that there’s a whole community of highly intelligent women out there changing the world!
What advice do you have for today’s SCS students?
Be curious!
Many seemingly-random things that I joined or learned or undertook in my time at SCS have revealed themselves as useful, even integral, to who I’ve become as an artist.
What advice do you have for young Alums, just starting on their path?
Don’t be afraid to ask for advice.
Life-changing guidance and mentorship can come from people whose paths look nothing like what you envision for yourself.
